Lacks the interesting villains from other novels, fun quick pickup though

This is an amazing story for character evolution for Rune, Addam and especially Max and Quinn between books 1 and 2 !

This is a novella in K. D. Edwards's fantasy Tarot Sequence, set between the first and second novels. , Reading this was a huge treat. The found family of characters is so very, very good. Although I like the characters best of all, the magic, the writing, and the humor are all great too. Highly recommended, but I strongly advise reading the first novel ("The Last Sun") before this.

About my reviews: I try to review every book I read, including those that I don't end up enjoying. The reviews are not scholarly, but just indicate my reaction as a reader, reading being my addiction. I am miserly with 5-star reviews; 4 stars means I liked a book very much; 3 stars means I liked it; 2 stars means I didn't like it (though often the 2-star books are very popular with other readers and/or are by authors whose other work I've loved).

Fun. I don’t always follow the action, but the dialogue is great fun. Rune is still withholding and secretive in a way that keeps me so interested, Brand is the greatest, and Addam is there too. TBD on him, but I do think the dynamic of starting a relationship with someone with an insanely close platonic bond with someone else is super interesting. I did appreciate his apologies in the tent and the conversation surrounding that.

An adventure filled insight into the lives/relationships of the band of misfits that are with Rune.
