This fascinating collection of tales of crime and passion has Magistrate Pao, the precursor to Holmes and Perry Mason employ ingenious methods and receive assistance in the form of supernatural visitations in solving gruesome crimes. Watch out for promiscuous monks eyeing voluptuous women and lascivious women flinging themselves on unsuspecting monks! Magistrate Pao surely must have had his task cutout! No wonder he needed the spirits to guide him.

3.5 stars. It's weird reading a mystery when we already know the conclusion. it's also weird when half of the introduction talked about the various torture methods used in those time. But the publication is nice with wonderful illustrations gracing the start of every chapter.
