Starts of superbly, and then just like that... it abandons any interest in telling a compelling story. Maybe would have been better as a Ballard short story, rather than a full book.

The only book I've ever read that indulged my fascination with highway medians. Nice to know that there are similarly afflicted weirdos out there. If only for this reason, I'd remember Concrete Island fondly, but it was thankfully also a hell of a good story, and Ballard is a hell of a good writer.
