A lot of fun. Lynch's female characters continue to be much more interesting and numerous than they were in the first volume, although not avoiding some old tropes. I didn't care for the romance part bur was never going to. The plot as always was very tightly woven and kept me entertained and guessing. The faux-Shakespearean dialogue for the fictional play was a real highlight, I must say - much more impressive than it needed to be. I didn't hugely care for the reveal about Locke, but want to see where it goes in the next volume. A welcome distraction from some more serious reading.

I’d like to say I’ll try this again later, and I might. But it just did not grab me.

I really wanted to love this book. The first two in the Gentleman Bastard series were amazing, but this missed the mark for me.

This book, like the others, jumps between past and present timelines with interludes thrown in. I found myself liking the past timeline more than the present. It was nice to get to see more of Locke’s past and learn more about his friends. Unfortunately, the present timeline bored me and had me speeding through it to get back to the past.

The plot of the book was also a weak point and had me confused at times, especially the ending. The humor and bromance between Locke and Jean just wasn’t as prevalent in this story. Which made me very sad because those were the best parts of the other books.

Overall, I am still excited to read the rest of the series when it comes out.

A huge disappointment after LOVING book 1 and really enjoying book 2. The main female character is poorly written and frustrating; the flashbacks seem useless and boring; the romance is unnecessary and also poorly written; after the first 150 pages (which were excellent) the plot lost all urgency, direction and drive. I just simply don't care. I read a spoiler about the reveal at the end which, if true, ruins what I like about this series and turns it into something I have no interest in reading. Such a disappointment, especially because the writing on a sentence level was the best and tightest in this book.
