I struggled a bit with Crosscut, the fourth Evan Delaney book. I realize that it was originally written 15 years ago, and times were different. However, the transphobia was disturbing. I have a feeling that Gardiner did not intend to write that way at the time. At least, I hope that was not her intention. But Crosscut could definitely use a new edition acknowledging or editing the offensive parts.

That being said, Crosscut was full of twists and turns. It would have made an excellent movie, and I enjoyed the mystery.

Maybe not the best book to read while 8 months pregnant, but still one of my favorites from the Evan Delaney series. Even though I have read it several times and know how it ends, I still find myself anxious and guessing what is coming. Meg Gardiner writes in such a skillful way... I really grew to appreciate the changing POV from first to third person. It adds a certain level of emotional depth to Evan with a great sense of dramatic irony for the overall storyline.

Previous review!
This was a fun read! It was darker than the others, but I loved the characters. I was definitely sad to see how things ended for some of the characters we have known for awhile, but I thought the premise worked well. This was fast paced and had the solid balance of tension, humor, and snarky/sexy Jesse that I have come to expect!

This was a good installation. It made me upset, sad, and glad right when the author intended.

characters:
The usual characters were great as always. Still detest her cousin Taylor. The other characters that are brought in were excellent as well.

Plot:
The story was great. It kept piecing together up until the end. Even when I thought I had it figured out in the middle there was still more to come.
