The setting was not doing it for me I couldn't see or picture what was happening. I felt disconnected from the characters and the plot was not intriguing. Wartime settings, cotton picking, hill people and brawls with Mexican workers just was not my jam

Personally this book didn’t work for me because of the main themes (baseball, farming, etc.). Even when something happens (murder, love affairs) nothing really comes out of it. Just not my thang!
