Not a typical Grisham book, nothing to do with the legal system. I enjoyed the old country setting.

Very different from every other book that I have read by Grisham, enjoyed it though, but be warned if you only like the legal novels he usually does, this is quite a departure!

informative medium-paced

I found this book in a shelf labled "Half Price Mysteries".

Most of the mysteries were solved a page or two after they were introduced.

The main character was supposed to be overburdened with secrets, but he blabbed them to his parents pretty quickly each time.

I want my 350 pages back.

This has been one of my favorite  books of all time. I love the characters and everything they go through.

We've had this book for several years, and although Tim had read it, I had not. I'm afraid we have several more Grisham books that I want to read, but haven't "gotten around to it" yet. :) I picked this one for the "What's in a Name Challenge" this year, so it would help spur me along to read more of his books.

This was, obviously, not your typical Grisham book. This is more of a coming of age book about a 7 year old boy, growing up on an Arkansas cotton farm in the 50's. It was a good story, but I had two issues with it - it started out slow for me and didn't end the way I would have liked! Having said that, I did like it though... I just didn't love it. It did pick up about 1/3 of the way in for me, so that helped!

I enjoyed this a lot more than I thought I was going to. It was a slower paced book, very character driven and immersive. I loved the glimpse the book offered into this time period and place. I learned a lot and felt as if I was there.

The one thing was the main character was a seven year old boy. For most of the book, it felt authentic but there were moments when he felt older.
