Not as good as some of his others, but a good read none-the-less.

The story was reasonably complicated but the writing wasn't up to par. Your time is better spent elsewhere.

After slogging through my last selection, I enjoyed buzzing through this one. I have read one or two other of Meltzer's books and enjoy the sense of history he brings to his thrillers. Enjoyed the twists and turns...nice read.

Great set up for a series. Clever wording, twists and turns. Gets a little murky in the middle but clears up towards the end and I downloaded the next book right after I returned this one!
mysterious fast-paced

So my husband, who NEVER reads! eek!, wanted me to pick up the new [a:Brad Meltzer|14610|Brad Meltzer|http://d.gr-assets.com/authors/1310673085p2/14610.jpg] book, [b:The Fifth Assassin|14889776|The Fifth Assassin|Brad Meltzer|http://d.gr-assets.com/books/1355109455s/14889776.jpg|20386276]. He said that he saw it and then later on heard about it from someone else that it was really good. We both like those kind of movies that have to deal with America's hidden secrets and what have you. I also like to figure out clues along the way with the main characters like these types of books. I don't like to be left in the dark with important information, so to know that the main character, in this case Beecher, and I are figuring it out side by side makes me feel a part of the heroism in the book is shared between us. I know that's speaking highly of myself, but I did figure out one of the characters in the book even before Beecher did...

I have to say that this was the first book that I've ever read by Brad Meltzer and I am truly impressed. I loved the fact that he had "short" chapters, but I was still riveted and intrigued with what was going on with the story. The flow of the book was perfect. There was never a dull moment. I was always itching to turn the next page and the book just was over before I knew it.

I am definitely going to pick up the next in the series. The only reason I gave it 4 out of 5 stars was because I felt like the ending could have been more....I don't know. There was something missing I feel. I don't know how to describe it. But still..I want to know what happens and how Beecher is going to figure it all out.

After watching and enjoying Brad Meltzers' TV show Decoded, I thought I would try out one of his books. Without looking too much into reviews I went into my local bookstore and picked this book.

Although I enjoyed the book I can't say it is a favorite. I enjoyed the political thriller and mystery but I just couldn't seem to connect well with the characters and found the action to really only be in the end.

After just this one book though, I won't give up on this author. After looking at other reviews I have a couple in mind that I would like to check out.

With the audio as the print, I loved the idea of the book (National Archives!) and all the characters, particularly Beecher and Tott. The narration of this book was good enough to increase the audio rating by a star. I’m now excited to read the rest of the Culper Ring series.

Beecher is getting to see her today for the first time since high school. In his excitement to reconnect and to show her his own life, he takes her into a room that is strictly against National Archives policy. Neither one of them should be in that room – nor should the book they find hidden under a chair. Is that George Washington’s dictionary? Why are there pages missing? Once he’s grabbed onto that book, Beecher finds himself in the middle of conspiracy and murder.

After reading and being intrigued by the description for The President’s Shadow and learning it is third in the Culper Ring series, I opted to go to where it started and dive into The Inner Circle. I found myself greatly interested in Beecher and his life. I loved the setting of the National Archives! I enjoyed the secondary characters.
SpoilerI was very sorry that Orlando was the murder victim. I would have liked to have gotten to know him more!
I was intrigued by the mystery of the dictionary.
SpoilerI think the book’s importance should have been more earth-shattering. It was kind of a letdown that the only importance of the book was that it was a means of communication.

But, at least for me, it never moved into heart-pounding action or nerve-racking moments. I didn’t really have any shocks tossed at me (am I so jaded that I just never trust anyone in a book?!?) and the plot moved along as expected. It was an enjoyable read – and at some point I will pick up others in the series, because I really did like Beecher. I just hope the others get my adrenaline rushing just a little bit more!
