Brad Meltzer

A well-written story in the often explored political/Washington thriller genre.
Melter tells an interesting story that kept me guessing and had well developed characters and a solid use of flashbacks sprinkled through the book to help move the story along. I'll be back for more Meltzer.

Meh. I usually like the legal-page-turner-adventures as light reads, but this one disappointed. I felt as though Meltzer threw too many balls into the air and couldn't figure how to get them all down, so he just...didn't.

I love books with the whole historical conspiracy thing and I like Brad Meltzer, but this one was a miss. Since it's a Brad Meltzer book, I expect a certain amount of sad sackness to the protagonist, but this one was too much to take. And there were too many moments where everything stopped for exposition from people who would not normally do such a thing, in situations that no one would normally do it. And some situations, I just didn't buy. If you've never read Meltzer's books, do yourself a favor and read The Zero Game instead.

Sadly, meh. I thought I was going to love this one...espionage, The National Archives, puzzles to solve. Instead it was so farfetched that I barely made it through. Oh well. It was worth a try.

An edge of your seat read!

After slogging through my last selection, I enjoyed buzzing through this one. I have read one or two other of Meltzer's books and enjoy the sense of history he brings to his thrillers. Enjoyed the twists and turns...nice read.

Also recommended to me by Maureen Sullivan. Brad Meltzer was the keynote speaker at TLA this year, and this book sounded intriguing. It's about the president's inner circle of confidantes, including a librarian at the National Archives. Inspired by the true inner circle of Abraham Lincoln, and the idea that it might have survived to today.

How can I resist a spy-ish mystery where the lead is a librarian? Well, an archivist, but no one's perfect ;)

Well, I'm stumped. Although I enjoyed this book, I enjoyed it the same way I enjoy a bag of crisps. I didn't relish or delight in it. It was just something to nibble at when boredom threatened. I've never read a book that was so long but about NOTHING!!! Holy Christ the most action in the book happened in the last 100 pages. I cannot believe this was a NYT best seller!! Come on! This book smacked of an author indulging themselves without caring about the quality of their work. This is brain candy people, it won't thrill you or challenge you, it's not even beautifully written. The characters are pretty weak and the humour is dire.
