I found the barn scenes hard to read visually, but adored getting Erica's origin story. And Octo's.

The fact that this is backstory threw me off at first, but the lore of the House of Slaughter and the Order of St. George is so good it brought me right back in. The art is both beautiful and terrifying.

I've loved this series, and the 4th instalment was no different. It expands on the world previously established in volumes 1-3, and on the characters and institutions. Absolutely brilliant. I can't wait to keep reading the next volumes.

A nicely detailed backstory for Erica, our favorite Slaughter.

(Review for Volume 4 only)

After three volumes of dealing with a small town's monster woes, we now get to dive deeper into the House of Slaughter chapter of the Order of St George. Not only do we get a closer look into who Erica was and how she became a hunter (with a dive into Aaron to a lesser extent), but the structure of her mysterious organization comes into play.

Some people will say that it is narratively far too late to bring in "Something...Origins" - to that I would say we can only make this distinction if we saw the whole shape of the series - which is incomplete at this point in 2023.
