I won this book in a Goodreads giveaway *yay*, and it was the first story I've read by Paige Tyler. Romantic suspense isn't my usual go-to read, but I love shapeshifters, so this was a new blend for me. It took me a little while to get invested in the characters. Once they were both on scene together, though, I fell slowly under their spell. I loved how Ivy kicked Landon's ass in training right away. :) Not only that, I also loved how Landon didn't go all macho and make excuses when he was beaten fair and square by a woman. They were great together, and once the action started, I was totally in! All the side characters also added an interesting element, and there are a couple in there that I hope get their own stories. One thing I really didn't care for was Ivy's obsessive shifter friend who wouldn't back off when she told him she wasn't romantically interested. That element took the story down a half-star for me. Otherwise, a fantastic story! 4.5 stars all the way.

This was a great book. It was definitely non stop and i was able to read it without having any problems with the story slowing down.

A pretty bland first volume in a new paranormal/spy/shapeshifter series. A heroine who's supposed to be tough but who cries and is majorly insecure; a hero who is supposed to be less experienced than the heroine, but who takes charge; no character development; and very little worldbuilding to explain the existence of humans who can partially shift into animals. For those who like action and adventure and who don't mind the lacks previously noted.

What do you get when you mix Special Forces and a feline shifter with mad Special Op skills? Landon and Ivy! Fast-paced story of Landon and Ivy as partners in a special government covert operations department. Good background story on both, lots of action and great supporting characters!

A good start to a great series!

Not really what I expected but I liked it enough to want to see where the series is going if with the next book. Shifter/military mashup but definitely not your normal shifter book which I kind of liked. Whirlwind romance and strong FMC. Loved both of these characters! I’m really hoping we get more of his special ops team in the next few books.

Action, romance and a little different shifter...

I liked these characters, their story was exciting and totally engrossing. Their romance was a slow burn to a raging fire, but realistic also. I was a little thrown off by the different shifter, but it works. Great read👍

“What the hell is this place?”

Loughlin leaned back in his chair. “First, let me tell what it isn’t. It’s not the army or any other branch of the military. Nor is it the NSA, the FBI, or the CIA Special Activities Division. It’s called the Department of Covert Operations. DCO for short.”

An intriguing plot that collapsed under an abundance of cliches. For a more thorough examination of the book, I’d recommend checking out this review by goodreads user Sadie Forsythe.

~ 2.5 Her Perfect Mate Stars ~

Her Perfect Mate is book one in the X-Ops series by Paige Tyler. This is my first experience with this author.

I enjoyed reading Her Perfect Mate, it was interesting, the shifters are a little different then what I'm use to reading, but I was not overly impressed. So much ended up bothering me in this book. I felt like I might not finish it, but I kept going wanting to see what everyone else saw.

To start: I had a hard time liking the Department of Covert Affairs. It came off as corrupt, prejudiced, and deceitful. Even the people working in the organization, both shifters and humans, with the exception of a slit few, where prejudiced or distrustful of each other. The characters I’m not even sure about. Our heroine, Ivy, who is supposed to be a top agent came access week, insecure, and whinny at times. I could not understand or connect to her. She also can’t control herself. (Really?) Any good shifter has control especially if they are a top agent. I wanted a kick ass agent and she was not that. As for our hero, Landon, he is described as god-like, sexy, and can do no wrong. He has too much going for him. Gorgeous, loyal, polite, good in bed, tough, etc. Where is his flaw?…Everyone has at least one flaw. I never once felt like Landon and Ivy where partners as agents or in their personal life. Our hero made all the decisions and our heroine needed him to keep her self worth and job. Also where was the world building? I felt in the dark most of the time and was trying to peace things together about the shifters, agency, characters, etc. We have no indication that shifters are super secret, yes it's mentioned, but Ivy’s sister is living a normal life and others have normal jobs, but its noted that no one knows about them. I needed more…

Her Perfect Mate was an ok read. I plan to try out book two in the X-Ops series to see if it gets better. If the blurb interests you, I urge you to give it a shot. Just because it did not work for me does not mean it won’t for you.
