Fundamentally disagree with certain points of view the author seems to have. Too many anecdotal stories for my taste.

I’ve been a fan of Malcolm Gladwell since his book Blink and have read most of his other books going forward. I had this one on my TBR stack for a long time. Now that Gladwell has published Revenge of the Tipping Point I decided to read this one just before reading the new one. As with Blink, I find Gladwell’s books work well in this format. This version has the author’s afterword which includes some important reflection on the book and new developments since the original book, especially the influence of the internet. Since the model of how epidemics spread is important in this book it will be especially interesting to see his new book with the perspective of the Covid epidemic fresh on our minds. I would have liked more examples in the book; thus I didn’t give it five stars.

Ants bite, elephants don’t.

Not what I expected. Seems to me like it only reinforced the things I already knew. *Shrug*

As always, an insanely interesting read. My only qualm with this book is that it’s likely quite outdated now, and most of the information ((while fascinating from a time-capsule perspective)) is no longer pertinent or relevant to today’s world. This is a book about how information spreads, and in the last few decades that has entirely shifted in an unprecedented manner. I saw that he wrote a follow-up to this book addressing technological advancements and I’m definitely adding it to my TBR!

Interesting ideas. I liked reading about the studies and weird connections, in that way it was similar to Freakonomics
