Much of the criticism surrounding this book stems from Andy's unwillingness, or resistance, to be degraded. These sentiments carry a hyper-capitalist approach, that excuses poor behaviour and ludicrous tasks as a reality when working as an adult. No thanks. Andy makes the most of her position as Miranda Priestly's assistant, despite changing herself and values momentarily to benefit her employer.
"You have nothing but choices! Andy, this job isn't just a job anymore, in case you've failed to notice - it's taken over your entire life."
Weisberger, whilst critiquing the system in which women are often exploited for the economic gain of a company, justifies the aforementioned theme in her conclusion. Andy is rewarded for her exploits, and Miranda is not changed; disappointing, yet expected.
An easy read, with some serious ethical questions - that are diluted to appeal to the broader market.

I've watched the movie multiple times and when I had the opportunity to read the book, I was really excited. I love the plot and the characters, but I find the book had a tendency to be very repetitive. Still, a great read.
