Loved the movie, so i loved the book, in a lighthearted way.

man i don't even think andy turned horrible like she very clearly had not lost her soul or anything. especially when her friends are mad at her for not being able to talk at work, like yes i think people should be allowed to take a social call but a lot of the time that's not gonna fly, not just at runway. and she's working fourteen hours a day, she's overworked and underpaid, y'all should be concerned. if my friend was in that situation i would have some empathy, not get mad because they can't always hang out. i don't think she was turning into a person like miranda, she still knew when she fucked up with her loved ones and still cared about it. she's not someone obsessed with her career and ruthleslly fighting to the top. she was miserable the whole time, i don't think she was really pulled in by the glamour even if she did enjoy aspects of it, it was mostly just misery trying to achieve her dream. i know a lot of my reviews i'm v defensive of the main character bc of course as the reader i'm gonna see their side of things. but like i felt for andy and like, her choice was to push through or to lose her job AND be left scrambling trying to find a new one like! come on y'all

(can't believe all the fucking reviews saying andy is wrong for complaining - and stealing from the company lmao who cares can u imagine how much money runway must have - like i have to wonder if y'all have employees you treat like shit and that's why you think she's the wrong one here, because you think it's somehow deserved. it's fair to call andy out on thinking she's superior to the people she works with but uh, as i said, she's working fourteen hours a day, is barely given time to eat, has to order breakfast for miranda multiple times WASTING food by throwing it out if it's gotten cold before miranda arrives, gives orders without all the information and then acts like the person is incompetent for not knowing what's in her head, i could go on. like. people saying they like miranda better?? for what? she is the person who will step all over everyone to have things just how she wants, when you know, being nice to people once in a while can go a long fucking way, she IS the antagonist, andy is not the ~real antagonist~ y'all are so weird to think so)

anyway i definitely enjoyed this more than the movie, i know i read it once years ago and didn't remember anything, but i've seen the movie several times. honestly i think andy and especially miranda had different energies in the book. like the movie is p iconic of course, but yeah, god, the moment andy quit in this version of events was SO MUCH better like, finally just saying the two simple words "fuck you" after a year of torture? so good. i just don't think the movie makes it as clear how truly horrible and unreasonable miranda is, more just that she's p ruthless, but her requests are RIDICULOUS and vague and she just expects everyone to understand and fall over themselves to do what she wants

okay little things: alex references something that happens with one of his students and andy equates six years old to being in fourth grade?? girl how that's first grade at most

is the new it girl named gisele that's apparently short supposed to be gisele bundchen who is 5'11"???

i loved andy doing little things to stick it to the company, even if it was more pettiness instead of goodness that had her handing out food to people on the street, it was still just one of my favorite bits

anyway i had fun and i'm looking forward to finally being able to read the sequels though i don't think i even knew they existed until a few years ago

Not sure how I ended up reading this book, but it was just not for me. To call it girly isn't quite right, maybe it was too fluffy.

I liked the movie better.

I liked this book and you will probably never see me say this again. I liked the movie more. I always try to watch the movie first because then I enjoy the movie and the book more. But - not the case with this one. Even though the book is well written it is very wordy could have easily been I estimate 25-40 pages shorter without all of that. On the flip side the movie was quite funny and a good watch.
If you enjoy fashion it would certainly be worth the read. I did enjoy just would be better without all of that.
I really liked the ending and the process that Andrea went through in her adventure in the fashion industry

The book and the movie are very different in my opinion. It's like a light beach read. Shows a lot of reality more than a dream future and job. I liked it a lot!

Denne boka har ikkje tålt tidas tann særlig godt. Mykje fokus på kropp. Stereotypiske homofile menn. Andrea er mykje meir likanes i filmen enn i boka.

I'm not a fan of Lauren Weisberger, at all. I did not enjoy any of her other books.

I did enjoy this book however, for what it was, a mindless, fluffy romp in the world of publishing and haute couture. The story is entertaining, with your standard chick lit formula: awkward, small town heroine finds sophistication and beauty in big city; her metamorphosis attracts the attention of slick, handsome writer making her rethink her loyalties to college love. Throw in an over-the-top villain, some Minolos and voilà! Mediocre chick lit at it's best. Which is good, because as bad as it is, this makes for great beach and camping reads.
