Gave me hope when hope was gone. A light in the dark tunnel of life-love.

This book is horrendous. It has really oof putting references, harmful gay stereotypes and weird racist comments about a multitude of people through the New York Landscape. Everytime I would sort of get a glimpse of what made the movie good and loveable the author ruined by being crazily close minded. I stopped reading on chapter 8 because I couldn't justify reading something so bad.
I picked this up because I needed a fast read on the plane. I think this is one of the few times where I adored the movie but only liked the book so-so. It just seemed messier, more like a gossip fest than anything with an organized plot. Still, amusing, and the Miranda character is great--though, they humanized her a lot more in the movie, which made her more dimensional.

This was a reread for me and whilst the book has nostalgia for me, is definitely outdated in today’s world.

Outrageous characters, absolute mess of people, great fun to read, everyone is an awful person in their own way (except the parents god bless them) so human. The torture Andrea goes through goes on forever I can see why people think it may be to much but I enjoyed every second of it.
Very of its time.
Commentary on the corporate horror of the fashion scene and the ways in which it’s all consuming.
Full of stereotypes and to me I took it as not a lack of open mindedness of the author but rather of a way of picking at the way in which it easier for people to fall into the expected rather than stand out. Becoming what people want in the harsh gaze of criticism.
