This book was amazing. I went into it not really knowing anything, but just having heard a lot of good things. I was so pulled in that sometimes I would stop reading (listening to the audiobook, really) and not know what I was doing or where I was. It felt like a whole different world, and I wish I could stay in it longer.

This book was so good. It really highlighted the difference between being white, white passing, and Black. The story of the two twin sisters and their daughters and the different paths that their choices as teenagers took them was very interesting to follow. I loved Jude and Reese's storyline, too.

An incredible novel about family and history and the question of whether you can ever really separate yourself from either. I loved the way the storylines of each character evolved and connected.

This is such a hard book for me to review because on the one hand, I absolutely loved it. I think it's an incredible story with phenomenal writing and I found myself thinking about the twins every time I wasn't reading this. On the other hand, I feel like the hype was built up so much around this book, that I couldn't enjoy it for what it was; a family trying to forge its way forward. I almost wish I didn't know how popular this was because I kept expecting something life changing, which wasn't fair to the story and not fair to me either. I'm conflicted on how to rate this so it may take me some time before I put a numerical value on it.
