An interesting look at current affairs, although let down by repetition and some particularly dreadful editing. I accept that the value of this work is reduced if it's delayed between keyboard and shelf, but surely someone could have taken the time to read the whole thing through?

A summary of 2016-2018 more than anything, obviously lacking covid. For a book about the silk roads there sure was a lot of America though. I get they’re acting in the area but it seemed more about America v china v Russia than any sort of addendum about Central Asia.

Contains a frantic stream of disperate facts that are outdated by my reading in 2024. No analysis or commentary other than 'the silk roads are rising.' Fails to recapture any of the appeal of the first book.

The writing of this book is much different from previous book on history. In “The silk roads”, Frankopan writes about history staying objective as much as possible and keeping the reader engaged with story-telling. The new book is more like a collection of news and articles which states the same trends in the new silk roads. The writing is very subjective and in favor or west even for historical events. As he mentioned in the beginning of the book, this book could be just one section of the previous book.
