Gotta admit I was worried about this one when I was about half way in. It seemed really disjointed and the timeline was all over the place. But it came together nicely without immediately answering all the questions. The art was amazing again, probably some of my favorite I've seen so far. I'm kinda amazed at how much I like this series, and I like that, too.

Wow. Batgirl makes a lot of enemies in this one. Villians seem to be nothing but psychotic in these things. I guess that's the norm? I'm super shocked about Barbara's little brother. It gives me the chills.

Heroes:Batgirl, Black Canary, Bat woman, Batman. Villians:Joker, Harry X, James Jr., Mirror, Gretel, Grotesque, Katharsis, Bleak Michael, BoneBreaker, Knightfall.

#7 - 8. I liked that storyline. Art's good. Uh oh, creepy brother is back.

The action and revelations keep coming one after another as Gotham faces a new foe who thinks they have the solution to Gotham's ills. Gail continues to capture Batgirl's voice perfectly as we follow her through her adventures and meet a new "friend" or two. Are they ultimately friend or foe? You'll have to read to find out.

Bullet Review:

After the massively disappointing Batwoman vol 2, I was fully prepared to regret buying and following this one too. Fortunately, my fears are unfounded. Simone continues to wow me with her perfect portrayal of Barbara/Batgirl - that fine line between snarky and relatable/likeable (unlike the nasty, distasteful Anita Blake). The art is awesome. The stories are a bit more one shot, but OK, though I felt I was missing a trillion storylines from other series.

Okay, I thought I'd fallen in love with Batgirl.

And then I met Batwoman. And now I have four more hold requests at my library.

Seriously, why have I waited so long to try to get into comics? This shit is my jam.

Though I'm still confused how she caught The Grotesque. Like, I missed that part entirely. And what the fuck happened with The Talon storyline? Like, police station go boom, and...nothing. Seriously, what the hell? The owl people were ready to rip Gotham to shreds and then...donut hole.

And the James bits? Oh, sweet baby jesus. And the bit with her mom at the end, I am so excited to find out what happens next. Also, is her mother's name Barbara? Because Commisioner Gordon said "Barbara" when she walked in, and at first I thought he was confused and thought it was his daughter but there was no clarification and did these two narcissists seriously name BOTH children after themselves?!

Got an inkling of back story (Bat story?) on Barbara, but I'm still thirsty for more. I can never have enough back story. LOVED LOVED LOVED Knightfall's backstory, dear god that was so dark and twisted and just right up my alley.

Metahuman. Is that a common phrase in the Bat universe? I like it. Though I prefer my villains just crazy (Harvey Dent, Joker, etc), rather than some form of super human.

Speaking of insane, is Arkham Asylum useful in any bloody way? I've seen movies, and read a grand total of TWO Bat related comics, and I know that EVERYONE escapes from Arkham Asylum. Like, what is the point of even keeping it open, really?

Okay, book 3 book 3 book 3.

Read these as the seperate issues 7-13 and origin issue 0.

I'm enjoying this series better as it progresses. I liked the first six, but BG loses a bit of her angsty self-doubt and kicks more butt.

I decided to buy #19 at a comics shop in Des Moines for the significance of it revealing Barbara Gordon's strong, activist flatmate to be a trans woman. I find it interesting that Gail Simone was fired from the title just before that plot development surfaced but was brought back after missing one issue after readers demanded she stay on.

Just as good as volume 1; same problems, too. The color of Batgirl's cape changes from purple to yellow from one page of the same issue to the next. That's a pretty big mistake. Also, there were several times that dialogue between two characters seemed mismatched, like when one character's response to another's comment makes no sense at all. Ed Benes' art in the final issue is best of the book.

Nonetheless, this is a dark, cool, complex Batgirl story. It was a fun read and I'll be continuing the series. Highly recommended!
