For hitmen, usually the only way out of the job is in a body bag. But when you're the legendary and revered hitman Taro Sakamoto, you tend to make the rules up for yourself. After his retirement, Taro is enjoying the quiet life - married with a kid, working in a convenience store, and completely out of shape. But when the past comes back to haunt him - and take him out of the equation for good - everyone will learn that legends don't go quietly (except for this one, who's busy slurping noodles).
If I had a nickel for every time I thought a manga series was what John Wick should have had, I'd have two nickels - which isn't a lot, but it's weird it's happened twice. This is setting up to be both an action-packed adventure, and some sort of found family buddy comedy, and I am here for it. I love ridiculously overpowered characters who have no aspirations for power or even vengeance, I love the idea of a girl dad assassin who's addicted to instant noodles, and I think this is going to be very fun as we enter a Parabellum-esque world where Taro has to carry on, listen to his wife's rules, and also avoid the billion yen price tag on his head. And it's an animated series on Netflix, so I'll be able to binge watch it while binging on the instant noodles I've suddenly had a craving for!

The ol' outta-the-biz-man-must-get-back-in-the-biz trope has been nearly run into the ground and yet it endures because there is always something winningly entertaining about it. Unfortunately, this was a bit of a letdown. It's somewhat amusing at times, but mostly underwhelming. There are too many good books in the world to continue on with this series.

It reads like John Wick but with the comedy of a Jackie Chan movie. The fights are well telegraphed and I’m excited to see more as I’ve heard the story develops quite a bit more in later volumes. Volume 1 reads more like slice of life and is cute and funny, but it feels early.
