I did enjoy this, it was just that I found some of the stories a bit too confusing (I know it's not always supposed to make sense but I just couldn't follow parts of it).

I've always had a strange relationship with Alice in Wonderland and I think it's because of the Disney movie. Somehow the Disney movie and I weren't a good match. It didn't work for me, even though it should have worked because the more I read, both original stories and retellings, the more I realize that Alice is and will always be my kind of story and my kind of character.

Just like the first book, this book is quite bizarre and it contains loads of nonsensical stories or little winks towards children's songs. I'm pretty certain that I miss a lot of winks and nods because I'm not native English and don't know all the songs, but I do enjoy this world anyway.

I now know that once we enter Wonderland, I have to let go of all logic. And the moment I do that, I can appreciate the writing style, the characters, the absurdness of the world, all the things that don't make sense and all the questions Alice asks because she rightly so wonders how this works and why the impossible things are true here in wonderland.

Alice does remind me a lot of how I was when I was little. I'm sure that if my mother would read the story, she'd giggle all through it recognizing me in both Alice's good and bad character traits. Curious, a little know-it-all, not being able to keep her mouth shut and not always asking the polite questions or saying the right thing.

I can't wait to dive into the next Alice retelling! I have quite a few left to read and quite a few versions of Wonderland to discover. Bring them to me!

Super lustig!
Aber im Vergleich mochte ich Wunderland mehr als Spiegelland.
