I knew this was long, but the first half really flies. It was exciting and I have fond memories of reading the beginning and figuring it all out.

Then came the second half which began to have a lot of filler and descriptions and
became very tortured and everybody dies and every good thing that ever happened get thrown back in your face

It took me a very long time to finish this mostly because of the second half, but also of course the pandemic.

Do with this information as you please.

Is it toxic? Yes, but what can you expect when both of them are men? 🤷🏽‍♀️

IM FREEEEEE!!!!!!!! WORST EXPERIENCE OF MY FUCKING LIFE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Starting this with my favorite quote from this book, "Two lifetimes. They belong to you. No regrets."

Anyway, I'm writing my delayed review for this because I've already finished this book a year ago LOL but a review is a review, no matter the date, of course. To start this review, let me just tell you some few things: First, if you are not that much into mammoth books, this isn't for you. But if you want to start gradually sinking yourself within those type of novels, then you can probably take this. Let me tell you, this book is actually really TOO long. 300+ chapters. It took me a month, if I remember it correctly, to finish it.

Second of all, the plot may be something that you cannot instantly take in. If you want to read it, please take note of the trigger warnings. There are many things that this novel portrays that may trigger some, and there are some aspects within this book that can make you really uncomfortable. For instance, there's an age gap barrier between the two main couple, Mo Ran and Chu Wanning. This is actually controversial to some people especially taking in with what goes on between the two, and the fact that they have teacher-student relationship. For the trigger warnings, I will not list it down in details but there's actually a lot.

Thus, if you want to read this novel, make sure to do your research first. Keep in mind your age, as well.

I'm writing this while speaking based from my experience because when I first started this novel, I immediately dropped the novel before I even start my way through Chapter 2. It took me weeks to contemplate before I started it all over again, and actually put my mind into concentration to comprehend all that is happening. So, if you are a new danmei reader—maybe take this as the second novel to read. As you go through, you will ceaselessly fathom the world of xianxia, and the world of Mo Ran and Chu Wanning.

In terms of worldbuilding and the all in all plot itself, I was quickly invested and immersed within the novel, the Xianxia world, and the way the plots are navigating through the threads of twists, and it felt like riding through a rollercoaster overall. The only term that could describe this novel is a rollercoaster. It would soar through, and plummet down out of the blue. This also best describes the situations that happened towards Mo Ran and Chu Wanning. The two have gone through so many shit for their lifetime and midway through finishing the novel, I honestly wanted to drop out from reading it. It made me smile; giggle like a fool but foolishly, I also fucking sobbed my hearts out. Meatbun's writing is one that touches the hems of your heart, there are always spark of emotions dwelling within the words of the characters, all to an extent of me suffering and having my heart crumbling into shreds, nearly ruining every corners of my mentality. And I know all those who have finished this book felt the same way. Meatbun never held herself back from destroying her readers' hearts, and you can tell that if you have read her other works. So, just warning you: There's a lot of heavy angst, detailed sexual intercourse aspect, and many more. Again, take note of the trigger warnings, too, before reading it.

This is a novel that I would recommend to danmei readers, but if you're new, this is something I won't push you to read. I'd probably gatekeep, to be honest. All in all, it's a well-written and intriguing rollercoaster of a novel. The character developments and relationships smoothly grows, and its a Chinese literature; danmei novel masterpiece that makes you bawl your eyes out, and love the characters hard, and as you near the ending, you'd find yourself getting attached to them—the world and the characters, especially Mo Ran and Chu Wanning.

Thank you, Meatbun.
