now that was an.. experience!
i think it'll be the last too cause it's too long and i could've just finished my trl!
the story was rich. the moral grey area where the main character is very though provoking. i don't think i could make a judgment yet but i understand what idea the writer wanted to convey. the characterization, the flow of events, the pace, everything i guess was well planned and in a good timing. i don't necessarily think there were filler chapters but i do think the "descriptions" were too long sometimes. one thing i had trouble with was the switch between different time-lines specially in book 3.
(the explicit scenes were too much and i skipped through).

Wanted to stop while it was nice haha... will wait for the rest to get translated!
Don't read this if you like erha.
I really tried to but i just couldn't like it. So far have read till 195, the book 3 is about to start.
I've read fics since i was 16, and i can tell you I've read shit like this so many times. Doesn't mean it's bad, it's jjst not my taste. I especially don't like innocent tsundere types so i obviously don't like Chu Wanning. He's too perfect and too innocent. It just makes me wanna rip my hair out.
I'm not gonna go into the rape aspect yet because the consequence of it I've yet to read but it's so fucking stupid still. Anyway.
I don't get why chu wannig would ever fall for mo ran, that just makes zero sense to me. Just because he chose him as his shizun and did nice things subsequently...
The relationship just doesn't make any sense... But even then, i still enjoyed because i like how mo ran was written.
In the beginning i hated reading it because all of their personalities sucked. But then the middle got really good and then it started to get dull again.
I guess, the problem is that, I find the premise itself a bit silly. That mo ran misunderstood because his shizun never turned around, (because his shizun is such a proud person that he would bare it all) that might make people swoon at the angst, and it makes perfect sense for them and I'm happy for them. However, i absolutely cringe at this. I feel the misunderstanding was too bare minimum for the avalanche that it caused i.e mo ran 0.5 rampage and rape etc
There's tooo many side stories, and some help the bond between the mc but others just drag it too much..
I also think there's some plot twist coming with shimei probably..
Alsoooo, the thing I don't fuck with the most is, like everytime they come across a hurdle, the author will give them plot armour. For example, wanning not being able to open the gates in the underworld but somehow being able to do it from jiangu.. things like that kept happening again and again that it felt like anytime there was something blocking their way. The author will casually throw in a new information that will make them easily solve.
What i want is for them to work through it, instead of saying "Everything is depleted. However there was a little bit cultivation left from a leaf nearby that some cultivator from some other sect left Behind some time ago (not canon, just made it up but ya that's literally how most of the problem solving goes)."

[SPOILERS]
1. i ended up reading the machine translations because i got impatient. it was coherent but not as fulfilling as reading the translations made by, you know, actual humans.
2. my main gripe about this series is the main villain. i don't know. hua binan's motivations towards the end were kind of messy. i have no sympathy for what happened to him but i do feel bad for the character because he lost everything and won nothing. it just felt really pointless and stupid. i know it's almost a danmei trope for the villain to eat shit at the end, but we're living in the 21st century. give me good, sympathetic villains pls.
3. i got a bit confused with the main theme of the series. i initially thought it'd be about living with your mistakes and self-forgiveness but it got a bit hectic and muddy towards the end. i feel like it was trying to cover so many bases that it was distracted from the prettiest part of the series.
4. xue meng is decidedly my favorite. in a fictional universe where there are so many characters with so many faces and conflicting motivations, his one brain cell energy is very wholesome and refreshing. i hope he lives happily ever after as a stuffing in a mei hanxue sandwich. peacock boy deserves the best.
