I read this book about 15 or so years ago but am currently re-reading as my son has just started it as well.

This was a good novel. Hard to classify as it blends elements of fantasy and Westerns with a hint of scifi around the edges. It definitely reads as a young author's novel, still honing his craft. It is a quick read and the pacing keeps you glued to the page to see where it goes next, even if it is just plodding across the endless desert. I look forward to reading the rest of the series.

Note: This is my first Stephen King novel, and I'm 30 years old. Relationships get you to try new things, like an author that you typecast as something you probably wouldn't enjoy reading.

Este libro genera un "buen" problema: no te explica mucho, pero lo que explica es suficiente para querer seguir leyendo. Y son varios los libros que vienen después de este, entonces ahora la disyuntiva es ¿seguir leyendo o quedarse con las dudas?

I have mixed feelings about The Gunslinger. Currently I haven't finished the Dark Tower saga, but I already feel that I am more fond of this book than I was when I read it, knowing now the places, characters and world in general that King presents us in his epic. Overall a good book that draws you in to keep reading more about Ronald and his journey, but not necessarily in an elegant or perfect way.

After a reread (and finished all the Dark Tower saga) i have to admit that the book is complety different. You can see the foreshadowing in King's narrative, and all things came to a perfect fit. With this in mind, this book is a solid 4 stars, but i'll still put 3 stars because what matters is the first read as an entey to the overall series.
