I just wasn't in the mood for this.
Also, the whole drunkard/bad-gal/goth-girl kind of character wasn't really my thing - I felt like it was a bit forced and a cliché?
I didn't care for the characters and couldn't really empathise with them.

I liked the premise but the story dragged on and I wasn’t a fan of the characters or invested in the plot

A thrilling, brilliantly creative and fun book about books…well, mainly about the people that eat them. Sometimes with ketchup. And some eat brains instead. This novel is as captivating as it is thoughtful, exploring the nature of love, family, and freedom. What an adventure!

I love me a gothic book. Add books and spooky elements? You're on to an absolute winner.
Devon and Cai are a whirl-wind. I love their love-hate, mother-son relationship and their internal battles. It's such a cool concept and the world-building just lent itself into this absolutely incredibly dark, twisted atmosphere that just blew me away.
Only deducting 0.25 off I feel like there will be another book in the future to carry on the story, but I don't know if I want it.

I don't know how to categorize this book -- literary gothic horror? It combines disparate flavors masterfully, with just the right amount of tawdry thriller thrown into the mix to make it accessible to a mass audience. It's like a master chef making an "elevated" pineapple pizza. This is one I'll be coming back to again.
Honestly spectacular, genuine and fresh. A seven-course meal of a novel that served up everything I wanted and more. I'm sated.
