Instant Chemistry

Asher and Winter had instant chemistry and just clicked. Yes they played games, but they both made their feelings really clear. Honestly I think this book flowed better then the first two and Asher and Winter were more relatable tonas well. It was slightly predictable, but still a real good guilty pleasure read.

So, I read this on a complete whim and some of the tropes really are not my kind of thing. I can’t pretend that I didn’t get sucked into the story; it’s very, very readable and engaging and I found it hard to put it down.

That said – as I write this review – I’m finding it hard to say what I actually liked about the story. Both Winter and Asher do horrible things to each other, especially him to her; the romance is a mess and very much full of red flags. The book, the plot, is all over the place. Not a lot of it made sense. The ending and the final conflict was very OTT and didn’t work for me at all; it became incredibly, incredibly dark and, for me, became a bit ridiculous. I also hated Selena’s subplot. It really felt like there was an attitude that she deserved the truly terrible things that happened to her – as if she needed humbling – and I didn’t like that at all.

It was just one of those books where I spent most of it going “now this is happening?” and I can’t decide if that’s a good thing or not. I was really entertained whilst reading it but once I’d stopped I just found it a very odd reading experience. I’m not sure I’ll be venturing down this route again.

Content Notes: Hate-to-love, bully, sports, class difference, bargains/deals/wagers, fake relationship.

Warnings:
SpoilerViolence, intimidation, sexual harassment, drug use (marijuana), absent parent, bullying / harassment, kidnap, sex trafficking, sexual violence, rape, sexual assault, implications of gang rape, references to torture, branding, sexual abuse, blood, gun violence, assault, bullying.

Other:
SpoilerOn-page sex, unprotected sex
SpoilerNo condoms used, FMC is on birth control, no discussion of STIs.
, virgin FMC, rough sex, dubious consent, knife play, public sex, oral sex, fingering, bondage / use of restraints, spanking, anal play, OM drama
SpoilerQuite extreme – the FMC was being set up with her father’s friend’s son and she isn’t interested; her family isn’t that invested in it and they just want her to be happy. But the OM harasses her about it. The harassment gets more and more extreme as the book goes on, including scenes of assault and sexually abusing her best friend. He later kidnaps the FMC. As another plot point he does also force her to break up with the MMC and she appears to go on dates with him, but the MMC never really believes the relationship is real and doesn’t trust him. I think the harassment and genuine danger/threat to her life is the main plot point here.

I knew Asher’s book was going to be good but I didn’t realize HOW good!!! *fans myself* he was one of the Ice Gods I was most interested in since being introduced to and it did not disappoint. This was one of my favorite books from this series
