A cute romcom of two lovely people being lovely to each other. It was relaxing and fluffy, but it made me realize for me to really love a romance I need a little bit more family/relationship drama/character growth.
There was a little personal drama going on: Rooney (who believes in fate) is an artist who feels like she is in her more famous mother's shadow. She makes her art anonymously and is afraid to be seen as an art nepo baby - she also wants to buy the video of her birth that made her mom an art world sensation (I don't get modern art either). Jack is a practical scientist who does not believe in fate. He is a brilliant scientist at NASA, but is held back from promotion because he's not social enough. His parents were absentee, putting their careers over him, and made him feel like he needs professional success for their approval (he did have a supportive and loving grandfather, thankfully). These are small areas for character growth, but they didn't feel cathartic enough for me to love it as much as, say, [b:Evvie Drake Starts Over|40514431|Evvie Drake Starts Over|Linda Holmes|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1538446504l/40514431._SY75_.jpg|62869040].

Reasons why you should read Red String Theory:
- You enjoy supporting Asian American authors.
- You prefer closed door romances.
- You love themes of FATE, second-chance romance, and star-crossed lovers.
- You are intrigued by the Chinese legend of the red string of fate.
- You appreciate a cute romcom with dual POV.
- You liked Soulmate Equation by Christina Lauren and Invisible String by Meg Jones.
- You liked Serendipity (movie with John Cusack)
If you resonate with any of the above…definitely add this one to your TBR! If you didn’t get a chance to read LKJ’s 2023 release, Lunar Love, that’s OK. There are some references to that story, but this book can be read as a standalone.
I received a review copy from the publishers. All opinions are my own.

3.5 stars. Cute, but I’ll not be thinking about this one, it just wouldn’t stand out. Too similar to many others, for me, which says more about my reading habits than the quality of the book.
Workplace romance + opposites attract!
Rooney believes in the Chinese legend that everyone is tied to their one true love with a red string. So much so that she creates art installations with red string.
After a wild night adventuring around in NYC, Rooney believes Jack is that person. But he doesn't believe in it, and they're quickly separated to opposite sides of the country.
Fate brings them back together and gives them one more chance.

I flew through this one, fascinated with the concept and Chinese legend, but also just really enjoying the MCs and the plot.
I was definitely hesitant when the beginning felt like it was going to be an insta love while they adventured around NYC. So I actually really loved that they were separated and there was a time jump before they reconnected.
I did really like the underlying reasons they both were doing what they were doing. It added depth to the plot and their characters.
I enjoyed the night adventuring around NYC, the dumping scene, and them getting to know each other.
I really liked the science / NASA aspect.
I found the LA scenes comical (& accurate) with the traffic and just vibes.
I also liked Rooney's family & Jack's coworkers!
I wasn't obsessssssed with this, but I did really enjoy it. And think it's worth the read!

Very cute book. A lot of relatable moments with the two main characters. Some slight issues with the writing style, particularly the back-to-back chapter dumps of profound lectures from the parents towards the end of the book. But overall, it was enjoyable.

Red String Theory is the story of Rooney and Jack. Rooney, an artist, believed in the Red String Theory since her mother told the story when she was a child. Red String even translates into her art. Their story is cute and believable.

This was the first audiobook that I’ve listened to with true duet narration and it was so refreshing to not have to listen to the narrators’ “man” and “woman” voices. I liked this a lot. I thought Rooney was bordering on manic pixie dream girl but I loved her chemistry with Jack. I loved reading about artists and the discussions on fate vs choice. Overall beautiful story.
