Better pacing and return to multiple POVs makes this the best of the Rain Wild Chronicles so far.

Really interesting to learn more lore of elderlings and dragons and kelsingra. Not that much happened plot wise in this one though. But more Malta and reyn! And a bit of selden! And the Duke of chalced…

Goodness I adore the dragons so much. Robin Hobb literally has created some of the most incredible dragons in fantasy. Their lore and their characterization is so fun and unique. I think one of my favorite things about them is how flawed they are. Usually in fantasy with dragons we just see them as so bad ass with little issues in being the dominating force but in ROTE Robin Hobb really shows how difficult it is in becoming a full fledged flying dragon. City of Dragons really shows how much our dragons are struggling to survive and become what they once were but it’s so cool seeing their growth and their memories/abilities coming back to them. I’m also loving how much my favorite characters are growing with each new book. Alise is so awesome. While she has Leftrin she hasn’t let him become her whole life and let him dominate everything like she did with Hest and that’s why Leftrin is A GOOD MAN SAVANNAH! I love seeing her just be so fulfilled in all aspects I’m so proud of her. Seldric and Carson are still just so beautiful together. Seldric deserves someone who understands him and wants to just take care of him no matter what he can or can’t bring to the table and I love that Carson is being that for him and showing him that. And can we talk about Thymara?! I love love love her so much. She is becoming such a great woman. I love that she is doing everything on her own terms as she should. But I need both those boys to stop being such idiots. Like it’s not wonder Thymara barely wanted to mate with them when they keep mentioning Jerd like hello?!? Are you dizzy?!?! Hest needs to DIE and it’s going to be hilarious when both Alise and Seldric are like ummm 🤨 bye?! Also so happy to have gotten more of my babies Malta and Reyn!!!! But like can Robin Hobb stop making everyone suffer for like five minutes? Not even their book and she still had to give Malta a horrible birth like please Robin unclench! Also the hell she doing to my baby boy Selden 😭😭😭😭 someone free him PLEASE! One more book and I’m so sad because I have ADORED this set in ROTE.
