We are SO back! By far the best book of the Rain Wild Chronicles yet, because this one actually had the pacing and structure of a real story. We finally got a more diverse, spread-out cast of perspectives, following several different storylines in different settings. Hobb remembered she could skip time between chapters, so we cover months and don't have every detail of a river-cruise detailed.

But seriously, the first Hest chapter in this book
with the Chalcedean spy
is my favorite chapter of this series so far. It was excellent, had so much tension, created new stakes, and moved the plot forward. I loved the further insights into Chalced, Seldan's plot line, and the appearance of
Tintaglia

Going into this one, I was weary about continuing this series, but now I cannot wait to jump into the finale. There are so many places this story could go and I'm nervous for these characters again!

The shortest book in the series but the same story could have been told in 100 pages or less if all the characters stopped talking about boys

This series is really one big book. I’m still enjoying it although it’s become a bit leas relaxing with some more brutal passages in this book. I dont mind lots of “unnecessary “ detail in a book, although some might. this is basically an installment in a 3000 page novel, which is why i lowered my rating. Super readable and vivid, i will work my way through the rest of the books in this world for sure.
