I read this to get a idea of my sister's enjoyment of her passions. However, I could not tell you a single that happened and it wasn't interesting to me enough to read the next book.

The classic shoujo manga that started the entire 'NOT a witch' magical girl genre! What's not to love? :D I love the artwork and plot.

And here's some good news... Kodansha is issuing an English re-translation of the entire Sailor Moon series (and its prequel) that we'll start seeing on store shelves in November! (Or can be pre-ordered on Amazon.)

I personally can't wait: the original Japanese version is sometimes edgy and slightly dark, while the English version from years ago...not so much.

romance

It is no secret that this title is a genre defining one in it's own right, both inside and outside of Japan. Many will remember waking up in the 90's to watch the Sailor Moon anime show that would air, a moment from childhood for many fans that they still remember. But the manga series is where it all began.

This is one of my favourite manga series, and remains so even today. Takeuchi creates a lovely story that teaches about friendship, loyalty, strength and never giving in. She creates a group of characters that are easily loveable. The story in the manga version to me was always more mature then the televised series which is refreshing, as even if you are a fan of the series but have never read the manga, there is something new for you to look forward too somewhat.

The artwork is typical Takeuchi, in which it is beautiful and just adds to the story. The series is classed as a 'shoujo', so the artwork is also what you would expect from the genre. Still, Takeuchi's artwork will always have a special place in my heart for how lovely it is.

From a different perspective or by being older you're able to see things in the story that you may not have noticed before. Sure, there are moments that may cause you to eyeroll, and the characters may make silly decisions sometimes, but at the end of the day the series is still very much fun. Not only that but it has a place in many peoples hearts, so even if you're a fan and you only revisit the series due to nostalgic reasons, you can't ignore just what this series has managed to do in it's time for so many.

While it is true that the original manga editions from the 90's aren't the best translation wise, what we must remember was how new the anime and manga industry still was outside of Japan at the time. However, with the new, updated releases of the manga being released now I strongly urge any fan of the series to pick up these volumes and check them out, because it really is worth it.

I mean this is my childhood, the most nostalgic thing ever to be honest. Besides it is really a masterpiece

Upbeat fun and adventurous. Takeuchi does a good job pacing out reveals and building Sailor Moon's confidence and character.
