Everything about this book was beautiful - the artwork, the story, the writing - it was an absolute pleasure to read.

Thank you NetGalley and House of Anansi for providing me with an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Poignant.
I think this graphic novel could be used as a definition of the word "poignant."
It is a relatively simple story about a very complex issue. Despite this, though, it is a compellingly honest look at a young boy's family and the way it functions (or dysfunctions?) through some difficult circumstances.
I love the first-person narrative, and simple dialogue. I like the author's ability to show, rather than tell. The illustrations definitely evoke a mood, and the sparing use of color is almost achingly beautiful.
I'm not sure if you could tell, but I liked this book.
