I felt pretty disappointed by the ending. The book had it's ups and downs in entertainment, and it was great right before the ending, but I am feeling hollow after finishing it.
Sutter was terrible. This is a book about how people tend to fall in love with the idea of a person rather than how they actually are.
I found this book a bit disappointing. I'm not sure what I was expecting, based solely on the movie trailer alone, but it wasn't what I got. I didn't find the characters likable and the book, while short, seemed to drag and not much really happened.
Watched the movie be4 the book so....
ending was different but all in all nice book even though I don't agree with what Sutter did to Aimee even though he could indeed be a great guy/boyfriend if he tried.

I had a hard time getting through this book. I actually stopped it twice and read two other books. My major issue with the book is the way Sutter spoke. "I was like.." before almost everything he said was just too much. It started to get better once he met Aimee but only by a little. And then the end. Ugh. He did not change AT ALL. He was the exact same person at the beginning of the book as the end. I was hoping Aimee could help him, even a little. It was interesting to see the girl not changing the boy for the better but the other way around (Sutter basically turning her into a lush) but I guess I wanted a happy ending.
All this said, I am still very excited for the movie. I am hoping I can say the movie is better than the book, for the first time ever.
Update: Just saw the movie, they changed the ending! He wrote an essay for college about how he wanted to change for the better and went after Aimee. I didn't like that either, hmm, I guess I just didn't like the plot..

Not sure why they are making this to a movie or how, it seemed a stream of consciousness type read to me and I wasn't sure what was happening or why it mattered.
This book made me tired and sad, which it was supposed to do. I think if I would have read it 20 years earlier, I would have a different reaction.
I was annoyed by Sutter some of the time but other times I felt like I really understood him. He was very immature and self-sabotaging, but I think the why behind that is really explained well. I did not start to really like Sutter and understand him until we met his father, and I am proud of his actions in the end. I am glad he got that wake up call he needed without completely changing who he is and how he feels about his life. It was such a new perspective, and I found myself wishing I was Sutter because he was so funny and cool. I think he did the right thing helping Aimee. I am not sure they ever really needed to date for him to help her, and I think he should have planned on breaking up with her in person just because it is not such a weak, almost disrespectful move then. I am glad he gave her the push she needed though to give herself the life she wants! I know things will work out for her, but I am still slightly worried about the mystery behind his future but I think that makes the ending even better.
*4.5/5
I loved this just as much as I thought I would. I remember when I watched the movie and saw the ending, I couldn't help thinking that it was too hunky dory. That being said, I can't help but feel bad for Aimee. Such a sweet soul. She might have grown a backbone, but did she really find herself in the end, or did she find the self that Sutter would have wanted? So many questions... I will ponder for awhile.

Such a good book!
Loved the style of writing and the story! So beautiful! I hated the ending but understood it. It was a quick but great read.
