I haven't yet seen the movie (wanted to) and this was available through my library's ebook lending system so I thought I'd give it a try. The main character (18 years old) can drink George and Martha (Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?) under the table. It almost made me sick how much this kid drinks. Just the same, he's likable for most of the book. I don't want to spoil anything so I'll just say I was hoping for a bit of a different ending...quick, enjoyable read though.

This book was interesting and a good read but certainly not life changing as other reviewers have said. The end is supposed to be hopeful but I just felt sad for the main character and pretty hopeless towards his future. Overall a good read but not something I would tell a friend you need to read this!

Although flawed in many ways, you can't help but love the protagonist of this book. I found myself pulling for him as if he were a friend and not a character. I would give it a 4.5 if I could.

Not so spectacular.

What I loved about this story is how scarily real and authentic it felt. We get a male teen who's the life the party and loves living in the moment. He guides us and gives us commentaries through his senior year on how it's like to be him, to have fun, about living in the moment to the fullest... and how we can be left behind when everyone else starts moving on. High School parties. Vices. A bad influence to a good influence. A good influence to a bad influence. Relationships made and broken. Dreams made and shattered. Just the usual senior year? It has a lot of good elements there.

It has really good potential, unfortunately it just didn't end well for me. I don't really know how to feel about the ending, it's just.. I don't know. But over all it's not a bad story just a bit disappointing end although I have a bit of an inkling on why the author ended it the way he did. I just can't help but think that it could've been better.

I've seen the movie years ago and though I can't recall much, it's not that entirely different only the end was definitely changed and in that sense made the movie better.

I would have rated it lower but I sort of get it. Just sort of. But I can't agree with how it ended. It just didn't sit well with me after all that happened. It's not a must read but a good enough fun read never the less.

I have loved people like the main character, Sutter, in real life, both family and friends. Maybe as a result of that fact, I found this book to be not at all uplifting or redeeming (is it intended to be? No? Yes? I can't tell). Instead, I found it extremely depressing and difficult to finish. Maybe because I wanted things to turn out better for the real-life Sutters I've known, and they didn't... it was just too close to home.

After finishing this book I felt really dull.
I felt hollow. Perhaps it's because the ending to this book annoyed me so much and that I just wanted to throttle Sutters neck!
But this book was so beautiful and I loved reading it.

I was kind of sad about the ending, but I was glad about Sutter's change in drinking habit. I wish-earlier-he wasn't still so focused on Cassidy while he was with Aimee.

The storyline was interesting and very compelling. It was really great to see these characters grow as people and having to face challenges based on their own character flaws. There's a lot of great examples of dynamic characters in here. Where it fell short for me was the narration. It did not sound like a real teenager was telling this story. It was often cheesy, unrealistic and full of awkward phrases that were meant to sound cool and hip, but weren't. It was obvious to me that there a teenager was not telling this story. I'm not saying that teens are the only ones who can write books about teens, but to write a good book your narration and characters have to be convincing, but for me, Sutter wasn't.
Sutter was also an asshole. Now, no character should be perfect, like I said, they all had their flaws. But Sutter was just so self centered and deceitful for most of this book, which made it hard to read. He frustrated me, which is not a bad thing. But I'm just warning you that he will probably get on your nerves when you read this book.
