Wow. I knew this guy. I DATED this guy! I am a bit vague on what happened at the end, but I'll just let my imagination fill it in.

I really like this kind of book with short chapters, like a couple of pages. It gives me motivation to keep on reading, although I didn't really feel like i needed that motivation. The plot of the book was very interesting. The usual character development didn't happen, but I think it adds to the charm of the book.

Another refreshingly different YA novel. Sutter Keely, the main character and narrator, is an incredibly charming young drunk and you spend the whole book rooting for him and hoping he will get his life together. The characters are wonderfully complex and real, Sutter's voice is clear and unique, and Tharp avoids any easy answers. As further endorsement, two students read this before I did and told me it was really good.

I never write reviews. I usually just give a star rating but I just finished this book and WOW. This book was amazing. Do yourself a favor and read it.

I love this book
It's fun to read. Even if I like a book and enjoy the characters and find the plot engaging, I rarely find the book fun. This is a fun book. I loved reading it, I was totally into it the whole time and will be definitely reading it again.

There were times when I found myself yelling "no Sutter you idiot! Don't do that!" But of course Sutter Keely doesn't care what anyone thinks. And as we all know, yelling at books does not change the plot.

The ending hurt me and I was a little disappointed. However Sutter was just Sutter, it would have been wrong of the book to have ended differently and it would be wishful thinking for the reader to expect it to.

Spoiler Sutter sort of fell into his relationship with Aimee, I really didn't know what to think of it. I loved Aimee, but she was a bit like a lost puppy and it hurt me to see how Sutter was giving her confidence and a beautiful powerful sense of self, but at a price. It was one thing for Sutter to be bordering on an alcoholic, but I didn't like seeing him inadvertently transforming Aimee into one too. She was far too selfless and good for him and he would have damaged her so badly by what he was planning on doing when the book ended. She was very naive and in a way Sutter took advantage of her, I don't think he even knew what he was doing, he was just totally obtuse to the world of emotions. Which is okay I guess, we all know a Sutter. It was hard to hate him, he was just a lovable idiot who thought too highly of himself.
I think we all knew the father being a big executive was a lie, but I was really sad for Sutter how his father actually turned out.

I would read it again. You should read it too. It was really just fun. and quite realistic, it totally could have happened, everything in the book could have happened.

I hate to say it but this book was a waste of a perfectly good reading week. I'm not sure why I bothered finishing it, I guess I just kept hoping it would get better.... It Didn't! I watched the movie about a year ago, I didn't even realize it was a book at that time. I found out after watching it so I decided I needed to read it. It took me a while to get around to it but finally, I cracked it open. Now... I was about 1/2 way in when I realized I couldn't completely remember the movie for comparison so I re-watched it the other night. And now I remember why I put off reading the book for as long as I did... the movie was terrible. The book felt like there was too much going on and the movie felt as though there wasn't enough going on. They left, what I felt was a very important part of the book, out of the movie also. And even though the ending of the movie fell flat... what the hell is up with the end of the book?!?!?!?! Seriously? That is how you chose to end it? I would have preferred if Sutter was killed off over the ending the author actually chose.

Seriously? Seriously, Tim Tharp? You're really doing this to me right now? I can't. I'm sorry. You made me read through the whole teen alcoholic filled book for that cheap ending?! I had such faith in you. I invested my time in your book and this is how you thank me? Fine. Whatever. I don't even care anymore. Consider yourself warned. Disappointing ending ahead.

not the best ending. more like an unorthodox book that had potential but...didn't use it.
