I picked up this audiobook after hearing MacLeod Andrews at the ALA Odyssey Awards reception this summer and I was immediately sucked in by the humor and Andrews's believable Oklahoma drawl. This is a story that lends itself very well to the audio format and with Andrews at the helm, it's just like Sutter Keely himself is sitting across from you and telling you the story.

Life is spectacular. Forget the dark things. Take a drink and let time wash them away to wherever time washes things away to.
The only reason I gave this 4 stars instead of 5 is because I didn't like the ending. Sutter Keely is one of my favorites character of all the books I've read. He's a nice guy, the life of the party and he embraces the weird which is what I like most about him. He might not have saved himself but he was able to save te only person who he believes that loved and needed him. But I think it was a bit douchey what he did to Aimee at the end.
Also, during the entire time that I was reading this, I kept picturing Miles Teller and Shailene Woodley as Sutter and Aimee. Good thing these celebrities fit the roles. Hahaha.

I cannot wait for this film. I was working Sundance and all my friends raved about it, so I'm not scared of it for once. Cannot wait. One of the best books that I've read and ugh. Just.. cannot wait.
I really like that this book was more true life and not turned into an after school special version. The author did a great job developing the characters and story. Overall I enjoyed this book a lit
Tharp's writing style is awesome, but I don't know what's wrong with me, but for some reason guy authors are just not for me.

I didn't make it far into this book, but the movie was really good, so I thought I would give it a try. I just wasn't into it. I think that maybe a guy would enjoy this book more. Not trying to be sexist!

So, therefore it's a dnf.
(no final countdown for dnf)
bye!

Sorry. I end this book as I began it: He's Holden if Holden didn't hate everyone but drank all the time.
Also the book doesn't capture being a teenager for me, perhaps it did for others, but this wasn't my life and it wasn't the life of people I knew - because I didn't hang around these people, didn't know anyone this alcoholic- so it doesn't even resonate to me on that level either.
But then I hated Catcher in the Rye too.

I read this immediately after I saw the movie so the two melded a bit, for better or for worse. Great main characters, interesting setting, a look what can happen when alcohol is more than a social lubricant. To me, the book ending was much more satisfying than the movie.
