If you haven’t read Lost Girl by Chanda Hahn… stop reading here and go pick it up! This is the second book in the series, and you need to read the first one to understand the world these books take place in. There is a lot of development in the first book that you don’t get here. This is a spin on a classic tale, but it’s done with so much care, and literally kept me at the edge of my seat for chapters at a time.
Lost Boy picks up shortly after we left these amazing characters at the end of Lost Girl. The Neverwood Chronicles started with a huge bang, and I felt like this book, book two, definitely kept up the momentum! I really loved that it didn’t feel like a typical sequel - more of an extension of Lost Girl. It gave us a whole new set of thrilling adventures, as well as some amazing and colorful characters! I can’t wait for the next book in the series to release!

As much as I hate that this book starts much the same as the previous book (Wendy has again forgotten everything that's happened), it's so interesting as a reader to have so much more background as we start this book versus Lost Girl. There were also some more drastic actions in this book, which caused Wendy to get it together a lot faster than in book one, but the deaths and kidnappings of people close to her were hard to watch, so be warned.
For a middle book, there was a lot of action. It didn't feel like the typical middle book that exists to get us from book one to book three. So many things mattered. Peter was wonderful. His jealousy was actually rather cute and understandable, although Wendy's choices to spite him at the beginning were frustrating. As a reader, we know better and we know/hope so badly for Peter and Wendy to be end game. Since this is a modern retelling, there isn't the problem of Peter not wanting to grow up, after all. So they can grow up together. And I was never a huge Peter Pan fan, but this series is incredible. I'm loving every bit of it, even when it keeps me on the edge of my seat and I'm screaming for the characters to please. Not. Do. That! It's wonderful. I am already looking forward to rereading it in the future.

3.5 stars — While this one had some ups and downs for me, I was still compelled by the story…so much so I stayed up until 3am finishing it.
Wendy was a bit harder to connect with in this one. Because of her loss of memories, we actually lost a lot of what connected us to her, and of course she didn’t know Peter, or her family, or anyone. I found that her emotions were all over the place and changed at the drop of a hat…she was very mercurial. I get that Ms. Hahn is trying to show us the confusion and effect of panning, but it really just made Wendy kind of unlikable. She wouldn’t listen to her heart, and so she was kind of a bitch to Peter. AND OMG HOT AND COLD. It dragged on for longer than I thought was necessary…it started to feel repetitive.
Peter was still super mischievous, but he was dealing with a lot of emotions as well. His reactions to Wendy could be kind of over the top as well. Honestly, I don’t know why he’s 3 years older than Wendy, because he certainly doesn’t act like it. And I get it, Peter Pan is supposed to be holding on to his childhood…but, I don’t know. He could have done that at 17 just as easily.
While Wendy and Peter were yo-yo-ing all over the place, I found what captured my attention was all the other little details in the story. From Michael’s gifts, Jax’s reasons, John’s introduction, John and Tink’s strange flirtations….just all those little things helped keep me wanting to read more and more. I also really enjoyed the development with Wendy’s gift, and the things she learned with the Shadows. It seriously fascinated me.
The ending was, like, super intense and tragic and I don’t know how to feel about it. I didn’t feel enough emotions at some of the tragedies as I feel like I should have. I don’t know why. But yet other things had me on the edge of my seat. It’s a super dark version of Peter Pan in so many ways. I mean, I get in the original story that Hook is horrible, and they have battles, but there is *death* and killing in this one. It was, just, unexpected.
The ending definitely has me one-clicking the final book to see how it’s going to “pan” out though (sorry, couldn’t resist).

Another fun book. It got better as it went on. The beginning was a little rough and there were a few inconsistencies between this book and the first. But then it got exciting. Excited to see how this series will conclude! I'm sure it's going to be wild!

I really enjoyed this book, but the complaints I had about the first book still carried on. It just felt so rushed. It could have easily been a slightly longer book and it would have read much better and left less confusion to the reader.
I still really love this take on Peter Pan. I love Peter so much in this series, but his character seems a little flat at some points - I wish we got into his head a little more to round out his personality.
Tink is really growing on me as well. I didn’t love her character in Lost Girl, but I thought she was a lot funnier and added a little lightness to this book.
Can’t wait to find out what happens next!

I have read every book by this author and loved every single one.. until this one. The plot went no where, nothing really new was learned, and I got quite confused with what was happening. This book seemed like it could have been a fluffy novella. I might have liked it then. I’m very upset because I loved the first book, but this one felt flat. I’m hoping for a much better third book! UPDATE!!!!! After my second read I found this to be much better than I first thought! Read the first and then the second made me like this book better!
