Upside Down

Danielle Steel

I received an advanced copy of this book.

This is a quick comfort read if you need a bit of an escape. Ardith is a famous actress, partnered with an actor named Bill. When Bill is away filming his next project, an assistant was provided for Ardith and she was shocked to see a young "biker dude" pull up on day one. However, Josh becomes an integral part of her life as Ardith deals with tragedy and her struggling relationship with her daughter Morgan.
lighthearted medium-paced

I didn’t have to cook Thanksgiving dinner this year, so I had a chance to sit and read Danielle Steel’s new book the day before the holiday. As with most of her other books, there is plenty of glamour between the setting and the characters.

Ardith Law is a legendary Hollywood actress. Her adult daughter, Morgan, holds on to anger and resentment towards her because her mother wasn’t around much when she was growing up. The two women lead separate lives on opposite coasts, have obligatory phone calls, and the visits are far and few between.

Ardith has a personal assistant who is handsome and younger than she, who also steps in and assists her through a personal tragedy. Morgan meets “the perfect guy”; however, he brings some unsavory baggage with him to the relationship. Through these challenges, both women better understand the other, and their relationship slowly heals.

While it was a fast read, a lot was packed into the story.

Upside Down by Danielle Steel is the story of a mother and daughter whose relationship is cordial at best. Movie star Ardith Law and her daughter Morgan, a plastic surgeon, have never seen eye to eye. Morgan views Ardith as a star who never made time for her, even after the death of her philandering father. When tragedy strikes, Ardith finds herself dependent on Josh Gray, the personal assistant who she almost had arrested. Mother and daughter's love lives end up looking alike in a upside down kind of way.

I enjoyed this book and found it hard to put down, I always look forward to what Danielle Steel has in store for us and her characters.
