I really enjoyed this book, almost as much as I enjoyed the film made from it. The actors and production really put it over the top in the contest between book and film, although the novel with its rough-and-tumble prose was not far behind the movie in the competition. I was surprised at how much of the narrative and dialog from the film was pulled straight from the story. Palahniuk pulls no punches with his descriptions of violence that occurs, but nothing is too over the top. I found myself once again questioning parts of the status-quo when I immersed myself into the world/philosophy of Tyler Durden, and didn't mind one bit.
The Kindle version (that I'm reviewing) also had a neat Afterword that in typical roundabout Palahniuk style provided some insight into how his 7-page short story (written in an afternoon) blossomed into the sensation that Fight Club is today (and he gives plenty of examples of just how influential Fight Club became soon after the Oscar-nominated flick came out in theaters).
Overall, a fun, quick read. If you've seen the movie, there won't be any surprises, but you'll still get a kick out of Palahniuk's first published novel.
