Yeah it had the misogyny I was told about before going in. But it is interesting to know that witch hunts weren't that common until this book came out. This book not only talks about persecuting witches but also how to judge and punish heretics.
Graphic: Violence, Misogyny, and Gore

I'm interested in this for the history of it, but my god is it hard to read.

I stumbled across a copy of this in a bookshop for £1.50. The copy had some lovely illustrations in it.
The book itself is pretty crazy, just how many women were tortured and killed because of this book beggars belief. I think it was Pope Innocent who commissioned this book and whilst reading it you can really get a sense of their fear of women.
A very dark and disturbing book which is a must read as it is part of our history... it was a few years ago I read it so I may have to do a re-read.

Do not expect to sit down and read this book in one go. It can be a bit tedious at times.
Also, this may validate the hypothesis that the witch trials were fueled by wide-spread ergot poisoning. I don't know how many times I asked myself, "WTF were these guys on?"
Makes me glad that I live in a country that supports women's rights, as well as separates church and state. This is an example of what happens when you let religious superstitions rule.

Possibly one of the nastiest attacks against independent women ever. The supposed powers of witches and how to deal with them. Useful as a historical reference.
