Short but very good. It has some action. I love a good fighting scene.

This is a brief novella set before the Inferno Rising series. I had already read that series without realizing that, so I was a little confused as to whether it was simultaneous or before the series I had read. I really liked how Ms. Owen showed Fallon and Maddie's connection in this book. I think this made the whole story. You did not get lost in the world-building. You saw their connection and how they re-established it. This was really a great read.

I feel bad for the low rating, but I really had trouble engaging with this story. Partly I think it was too complex politically for a novella, and certain points I think would have fit better in a full length novel. Maddie and Fallon needed a more solid backstory or more time for their courtship. But mostly, I really don't like male characters (even if they are the lead or "know" the other person and are "teasing" and would "back off" if told do so) who push or manipulate female characters' boundaries, especially their physical ones. Also the word "feisty" as a descriptor has really started to grate.

A good novella length book which doesn't really get into the details of the world Abigail Owen is building for her Fire's Edge series. A worthy book to read if you enjoy dragon shifter romances.
