Maybe it's because I saw the movie before reading the book but I enjoyed the movie so much more. Holly was an annoying little dick in the book. She was so self pitying and selfish. She had her selfish moments in the movie but those were understandable. And getting her inner dialogue was probably just enhancing what she really felt, which WAS self pity, but I could have done without it. I wanted to strangle her half the time.
I was not a fan of the writing style either. I was just disappointed.
And having the movie in my head was not good for the way it was changed in the movie from the book. Especially Holly's relationship with Daniel. And Jeffrey Dean Morgan like where the hell was his character? I am a complete fangirl of his so I wanted to see him. And I was KINDA bummed that it was actually set in Ireland because one of my dreams is to visit Ireland and I really liked that Gerry set up their trip to Ireland. I could day dream with that. But, I guess living in Ireland is probably way cooler than visiting. So that's not really an actual complaint from me.
The notes seemed to lack any real emotion as well. I didn't feel sad at really any point. The movie had me in tears. And the movie had a lot of flashbacks to their relationship while the book had one (or two?). I missed that because it contributed to building the story and a picture of their relationship.
I will say that I really liked that Holly had a bigger family because I got to explore more characters that way. I liked the relationship between her and her brother Richard.

loved it. so much better than the movie. the reading was light and fluffy while at the same time dealing with tough issues. the characters were fun and sympathetic and amusing, and i felt for Holly every step of the way. excellent story.
This was a sad story but it was mixed with some funny times. Holly is a new widow since her husband recently passed away from a brain tumor. This story goes over all the difficulties of coping after such a loss and also with keeping up with friends and family who don't know what to say. She is talking to her mom one day when she reminds her that there is an envelope there for her. Her mother told her it just says "The List" over her name and address and hopes it isn't important because it had been sitting there quit a while. Holly realized it might be from her husband since they had joked about him making her a list to remind her of things. This was enough to get her out of bed and she went to retrieve it to see what it was. It was from her husband and it contained a small sealed envelope for each month after he died. These notes motivated her to get out and do more things instead of staying in bed and crying her eyes out. She lived for the day she could open the next one but also knowing that one day they would be all gone and she would truly be on her own.
I have really like a couple of Cecilia aherns later books, and I got this one free in a book box. I couldn’t get past the first 50 pages, the writing is mediocre with random POV flips and you can definitely tell it was her first novel
It was kinda cute but wtf i was so close to not finishing this book because the storyline was fucking terrible

I had watched the movie that is based upon this book several years ago and have always held to the idea that the book is typically better than its movie counterpart. Now, it has been a while, so I don’t have the best recollection of the film, however, I do believe that they did a good job with some of the changes they made. Both the book and the film do well with portraying the difficulties of moving on after the loss of a loved one. If I remember correctly, though, the movie did include more scenes of Holly and Jerry’s relationship before his death, which made everything a bit more poignant. The book clearly focuses more on Holly’s relationships with her friends and family after his death, which is still a very interesting way to explore this topic.

Just didn't do it for me..........
I just couldn't relate to her grief, and her descriptions and interactions with her friends just seemed like a bad sitcom. It was a quick read, but I just felt irritated by the whole story! I know I'm a terrible person, but I don't enjoy a book just because it has a sensationalist plot (maybe because I can relate a bit too well to the illness of the husband!)

This is a lovely story that I have returned to many times. I like the characters and I especially love Gerry and Holly's relationship.
