PS I Love You

Cecelia Ahern

3.8 AVERAGE

P.S. I Love You is a love story written by Cecelia Ahern. The point of view is told by a woman of the age of thirty. Holly and her husband Gerry was destined to be together. Their lives were perfect, and than, Gerry died. In the book, Holly is going through a phase of lots of great sorrow and thoughts of their times together. After a while she is slowly picking her life up where she left off, with the help of Gerry's letters, each signed P.S., I Love You. I wanted to write a review in a longer post with just this book as a subject. It seems like that idea turned out a bit wrong. Anyway, my opinion on this book is normal to good. I liked reading it even though it was a task for my English class. I never liked the type of books where sorrow has to be processed. All the negative emotions make my mood go down, a thing I definitely don't like. Death or a heartbreak is rather something I'd like to handle myself, than read it in a book. It can make things boring, or tedious. I like books with tension, and the sorrow-ones are just, the opposite. With P.S. I Love You it felt different than the other books I've read. It didn't make my mood go down in any way, actually it made me sometimes laugh. The occasions and the conversations are normal things that could happen with or to anyone. All this daily Irish stuff is I think what made it great. Look, I am all saying positive things about this book and yet I only regret one thing. With five other books waiting to be read, I flew through it so fast that I sometimes didn't have the proper time to enjoy it as much as I do with other books. The fact that it belongs to my English teacher doesn't give me the chance to read it again and turns a sad look on my face. The conclusion of this all is that I liked it, not as much as the fantasy ones I usually read, but it is fun to try something new and I can not say I found it a waste of my time.

My feelings about this book are unfair and not helpful. I saw the movie first (several times) and missed my favorite elements from it that did not appear in the book.

Now this is one helluva emotional book I have ever read! It did a really great job on triggering my emotions from start to finish. I do have had a little bit of problem with the main protagonist, though. But knowing what she's going through, I can't blame her for being so needy, so selfish. I mean, we all have to agree that losing someone that we love is the most shittiest thing that could ever happen...

The movie is one of my favorite movies and even though the book is a little bit different I loved it too!

Very lovely and well-narrated book. I had already seen the movie when I decided to start it, and though I missed some funny characters from the movie, I can say proudly than the book is by far better. Delicate, emotional and funny, I really enjoyed it, specially the characters, which are in my opinion well portrayed throughout the whole book. My only negative comment might be the length of the book: there are chapters or pages totally unnecessary for the plot or its development. But nothing terrible at the end (:

I started crying by page 30. Found myself tearing up while reading at the airport and on the plane so I had to put the book away. The book hooked me from the beginning and I just loved it.
This book totally made me appreciate my husband and the time we have together.

P.S. I Love You was a compelling story, but only mediocre writing which made it hard for me to muddle through. For those who have seen the movie, the book is totally different, but charming in its own right.
