I Will Ruin You

Linwood Barclay

I wasn’t sure what to expect from this book and I really liked it! There was twists I didn’t seen coming, and I liked the light hearted/funny moments too mixed in with the action.

This was another stellar novel from Barclay! There was a million things going on, all intertwined and I didn’t know who did what and when. I couldn’t even imagine that ending and I loved it. Definitely recommend this binge read.

Ok... how to explain how I feel about this one. I struggle with books where no one is likeable. But I stuck with it, and once I hit 70% I was fully in it! At that point, I thought for sure this was going to land around 4 stars for me. But, besides being predictable (in the kind of book where that's a bad thing), it just tried to fill too many twists in with the time it had left. And all for our MC to deal with.

Just too much for me. So, not a bad book all in all, but still left me just feeling meh.

Take a drink every time Rachel gets left with the babysitter/neighbour and I guarantee you'll be on the floor before the final page!

I like the author and I've loved his previous works but this one kinda bored me. And I don't know if I've simply read too many books in this genre but I saw the final twist coming a hell of a lot sooner than Richard did!

Suspense until the end

This was a good mystery that was burdened with so much boring internal monologue that it lost me at times.
Added bonus- the case against book banning!

Another good read from this author! The life of an ordinary man is turned upside down by criminals. I liked the characters and the plot and there were just enough twists to keep up the pace.

Seeking Solution from Ruin
Review of the William Morrow hardcover (May 7, 2024) released simultaneously with the William Morrow eBook and the HarperAudio audiobook.

Such is circumstance that soon after reading GR Friend Berengaria's review of Linwood Barclay's [b:Never Saw it Coming|16268905|Never Saw it Coming|Linwood Barclay|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1354772194l/16268905._SY75_.jpg|24504766] (2010) I happened to be in the library and there was Barclay's latest novel right there on the New Releases shelf. I saw that as a sign and grabbed it up right away

Richard Boyle is having a really really bad week. After becoming a hero and saving the school from a bomber, his life keeps getting worse and worse. This story was yet another crazy story, but I couldn't put it down. I liked seeing the other perspectives and while one twist I did guess (
thank you Chekhov's gun and I mean that more literally this time since Trent was the only one who it was mentioned had a gun
) I really liked how everything tied together in the end. Barclay really knows how to write crazy mysteries with compelling characters, and I loved the shout-out to Carl Hiassen, one of the first authors to get me into mysteries. This was just a great book.
