difficult, stream of conscious (at times) environmental horror by vandermeer. Easily the most complex one in the 2 series so far for me, and I'll have to reread borne to understand bits, I reckon.

okay well. wow. so like. 2-part statement: 1. i LOOOVE weird abstractions of language and prose-poetry and anything that pushes its medium to the limit, 2. i had no clue wtf what going on for the majority of this book and it took me like five months to read lmao. which - it might be my fault bc i only realized halfway through that it was supposed to be a loose sequel to borne, which i never finished, so that probably didn't help (tho indicating anywhere on/in the book that it's related to borne would have BEEN NICE!!). ANYWAY ultimately i respect and appreciate the fuckery of craft and i had a more or less good time letting the cool words massage my brain even if it wasn't the easiest thing to get engaged by. + would happily read jeff vandermeer describing tide pools all day every day
