I liked this one better than borne, even though it was more challenging read. Not a straight forward story as it is more of a selection of interconnected short stories about resistance, love, and interconnectedness. The more experimental prose and varied perspective was what borne needed. I recommend.

There's a sentence in this book that I think sums it up perfectly:
"You wouldn't understand me even if I made sense."
This is a great take on an apocalyptic world ruined by humans doing what we are currently doing to the planet and it has a great message to impart. However, although I understood the main overarching theme, I found it really difficult to follow the individual components and felt the writing could be pretentious at times.

I so badly wanted to enjoy this book for what it was as a creative piece of literature, but it was so confusing that I just can’t recommend it. I also was really annoyed to learn after I started reading this that it is a companion novel to Borne by Jeff Vandermeer, but nowhere on the cover or inside of the book for Dead Astronauts is this mentioned. It was only when I added it to Goodreads did I see that it is listed as the second book. I wish I could give it more stars but I just couldn’t wrap my brain around this at all…I hope others find enjoyment in it though because it truly was an experience to read!
Tries a bit too hard. I had hope, near the end, that mysteries would be explained and wrapped up, but I ended with little sense of resolution. Beautiful at times, but too clever by half. Pages of the same words repeating over and over, which might be effective in music or theater but here, well, I just skipped the pages until it stopped.
I love how you can just say things that happen in the book and with noceontex they still sound amazing. VanderMeer swings for the fences with confidence and succeeds! Remember when the guy who was a bunch of salamanders and can see the math of the universe fights himself created by a bat faced doctor?

Second in a series that I haven’t read and Vandemeer’s style is… madness.
