Fantastic look into the societal view of women as ornamentation. Beautifully written, with a lovingly crafted heroine.  I rated it a little lower just because the

the ending was so sad. It makes sense - she was a flower plucked from her garden - but the lack of hope in the ending had me rating it lower.

I love Wharton's writing, but this read more like a tragedy to me than a dark comedy (which is how it was presented to me). I enjoyed the dialogue so much, and I felt that the last third of the book was the strongest. It was a beautiful read.

So, so torn on how to rate this one. It was slow at first, then I was really into the drama and rooting for Lily, and then the ending ruined everything for me.
