A surprising and beautiful meditation on what it is that makes us human. The premise is that a man in his first year of marriage slowly transforms into a great white shark. We are undoubtably closer to the animal world than we like to admit. Habeck pushes the premise well beyond metaphor and I found myself deeply moved. A beautiful book.

this book is so beautifully, devastatingly real.
making you confront the reality of losing your loved ones, losing yourself to terminal illness or terminal disabilities. the overwhelming but also grief that consuming these characters will have you grappling with your own sense of security in your relationships and you’re own life as you know it.
this book is, on the surface ab a man who turns into a shark. that doesn’t sound so serious right? especially when you use the word “sharkification”, it maybe becomes even a little silly.
while this book is about that, it is also a hauntingly accurate depiction of losing someone you love more than yourself and having to figure out how to keep living in spite of that.
this is a beautifully written book that documents everything we as people are terrified of.
