Anne Frank is no ordinary girl. She so smart and is in touch with her whole being; heart, soul, and mind; in a way that most people live and die never having experienced. Her journey as a 14-year-old girl is the most relatable I have ever read. It truly saddens my soul to think of the horror she must have experienced at the concentration camp and the pain she must have felt at being separated from her father. And I wonder what happened to Peter?

It feels almost disrespectful to review this book. It's not even a book, it's the diary of a thirteen-year-old girl. It describes crushes, fights with parents, classmates, etc. This diary was never supposed to see the light if day, and the only reason we're reading it is because the girl in question was killed in the Holocaust. So what gives us the right to review it? This book took me two months to read, and almost put me in a reading slump. It's painfully real, painfully relatable, but also painfully boring. I can see my own thirteen-year-old self in her, and I know nobody would want to read my diary from that time. I think Anne Frank shows incredibly maturity and resilience for her mindset during the war, but I doubt it'll be any consolation to her now.
