Set a long time ago in the mythical world of Arthur's knights, this is a story of an elderly couple who set off on a journey through a mist of forgetfulness to find their son. That's not me trying to be poetic, there actually is a mist that makes the characters forget things that happened even earlier the same day.

Beautiful, poetic, lullaby of a book on the surface; under it is a tale that asks deep questions of love, memory and forgiveness. I found it all the more remarkable having read Never Let Me Go because it is so different from that story. It's rare to find a writer who can write such separate books. Usually I am put off reading work by authors I've read before because I feel you are in some way getting the same story, but having seen that's not the case with Ishiguro I will look for more of his books.

This one was an interesting read. I loved the narrative and the descriptive language painted a great picture in my mind. However, there were parts that (because for whatever reason I wasn't paying attention or I thought it vague in the book) that were never fully resolved for me. I'm the type of person that likes a clear, firm resolution even if it's an unhappy one.

So average. Out of the Ishiguro books I've read (Never let me go, Klara and the sun, The Buried Giant), this is easily the worst. Terrible pacing, boring plot, and adequate characters, this book is so mid, it's not worth reading.

Really not sure how I feel about this book - I loved the idea but the execution just fell a bit flat for me. 2.5 stars.
