Utterly amazing. I started reading it again right after I turned the last page.

I think Ishiguro is one of those writers where you have to already know things to know things, if you see what I mean. His work can be very vague, and if you're not paying attention all the time you will miss things. That then leads to the impression that nothing's happening.

In this book, I think the vagueness of the world really works as it's almost an extension of the forgetting that is afflicting the characters. It's not usually something I like, but it fits here. YMMV.

In a way, this is the same story as Klara and the Sun, and Never Let Me Go. No matter how deeply we love, in the end we die alone. There are no exceptions. I don't know how it's possible to write so exquisitely. Kazuo Ishiguro is my favorite living author.
