The real mystery is why I bother to review short story collections when I know I don't have the attention span to remember every single one but regardless, you know some were really good some were okay, but nothing really you'd regret missing out on if you passed on this collection.

Actually, just reading a particular review that mentioned the Labors of Hercules collection reminds me that if you actually do read any of these, it should be this one, especially if you want continuity or themes in your short story collections

Io un libro così non lo leggevo da un po'. Agatha Christie mi ha tenuta incollata alla pagina, caso per caso, omicidio o furto che fosse. Una lettura simpatica, divertente e micidiale *cofcof*

I've been talking a lot about comfort books in my reviews this year, and that's because I need the comfort. I read my first Christie (Evil Under The Sun) in seventh grade, at my late aunt's place, and I've been hooked ever since.

My aunt passed away this year, and all I have left of her is memories. I had to self-isolate for two weeks when my grandmother was diagnosed with COVID, college was eating me up from the inside, and I was this close to losing my mind.

Luckily, I had this book to see me through.

The stories are pretty formulaic, and some of her solutions were really outlandish, but Christie manages to make Poirot such a darling, that you can't help but develop a fondness for the man and his little grey cells. The occasional references to Sherlock Holmes never failed to crack me up, it was a little too meta.

What can I say? This was an enjoyable read.

Absolutely love the Poirot stories, but I missed Hastings too much by the end.

This is almost impossible for me to rate. I liked it because it’s essentially like reading a series of writing exercises by Agatha Christie as she hones her craft over time. As a fan, I love that. But the stories aren’t exactly good, or often even solvable by the reader. So I wouldn’t recommend it for reading in that context.
